freelance writing sites

Note: Some links in this post contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a commission if you make a purchase. That’s actually one of the ways you make money blogging! Thanks for supporting my blogging dreams! :)

I’m pretty new to blog monetization techniques and as I continue to read and learn more about them, I’m realizing that it could take a long, long time before I ever earn any real money.

That’s not to say that all the work and effort is not worth it. Monetizing your blog can help you to bring in more passive income that say going in to work everyday for 40 years.

However, that doesn’t mean that newbie bloggers can afford to just twiddle their thumbs until the big blogging bucks come rolling in.

One way you can make money immediately is to offer freelance writing services on your blog. All you need to do is create a “hire me” page on your blog and BAM you’re in business!

To help you along the way check out these 15 sites that pay big bucks to their contributing writers.

Compose – Up to $700

If you’re a pro at databases and applications then this is definitely the writing gig for you! Compose will pay up to $200 for anyone who can write amazing detailed tutorials on all things database. They also run a contest every three months to see which article is their readers’ favorite and the winner gets an additional $500!

They pay an additional $100 if your article makes it to the top 5 on their site and an another $150 to the article that hits the top spot!

Christian Science Monitor – Up to $300

This popular publication is looking contributors in topics such as international news, people making a difference, books, and more! They pay between $200-$225 for most publications but pay $300 for a “people making a difference” feature. They give pretty good details on how to pitch for each category.

WPHub – Up to $200

This gig would be best for WordPress techies or WordPress design gurus! This publication is looking for articles on WordPress, WordPress design trends, best coding practices, and new plugins.

Eureka Street – Up to $200

Travel China Guide – Up to $500

Calling all travel bloggers! This publication is looking for independent travel writers who can share their experiences in a unique and unforgettable way!

Semaphore – Up to $200

As you can see, technology writers benefit the most from this list! Semaphore wants writers who can share their expertise on software development best practices, development, and more. They even give a list of title ideas to get you going in the right direction.

Profit Bricks – Up to $200

Yet another software publication looking for techie writers! This site wants writers who can publish articles on step-by-step tutorials on installing and configuring software. If that’s you, get started by sending them a sample tutorial you’ve written.

Great Escape Publishing – Up to $200

Here’s another great opportunity for travel writers. Great Escape Publishing wants writers who can detail the art of getting paid to travel. If you haven’t quite gotten there, don’t worry. They also publish interviews of people who do get paid to travel. You just may get paid to interview your favorite travel blogger!

Two Plus Two – Up to $200

This is an online poker magazine that accepts articles on any topic related to poker, especially topics such as statistics, popular players, and strategy.

Knoji – Up to $200

Knoji is looking for contributions to their consumer guide series. You can paid for your reviews on companies and products. To pitch them you’ll have to provide writing samples with similar topics.

This Old House – Up to $250

If you recently rennovated your house and did the work yourself, This Old House wants to know about it. Take your before and after photos, a short summary of what you did and send them to  readerremodels@thisoldhouse.com for your chance to be picked!

This list was orignally found by blogger and writer Bamidele Onibalusi (@youngprepro) teaches writers how to make money and be in charge at Writers in Charge, a leading blog for freelance writers, where he put together a list of 110 websites that pay writers. This list is seriously the bomb.com and you should totally download it if you want a huge database of freelance writing job boards.
